Cass County Overview
Cass County Recorder
The Cass County Recorder holds land and vital records for the county. Land records include deeds, mortgages, and plat maps going back to the 1800s. These are some of the most useful genealogy sources because they name buyers, sellers, and often show family relationships through property transfers over time.
Vital records in Minnesota were first kept at the county level. Cass County has birth and death records from the late 1800s onward. Access to records less than 100 years old (births) or less than 50 years old (deaths) is restricted under Minnesota Statutes section 144.225. Older records are open to the public. Contact the Recorder's office to ask what years they hold before making the drive to Walker.
